With each use of your knife, the razor-sharp edge naturally bends over just a tiny bit. The edge is still sharp, but the sharpest part isn't making contact with the food. The remedy is honing with the Knifesblade Honing Steel.
The Knifesblade™ SERIES 1 Honing Steel gently realigns the edge of your blade. It offers two honing surfaces: a smooth one for weekly honing, and a micro-ribbed one for monthly honing. By honing your edge regularly, you can go longer between actual sharpening's.
While European knives can require honing after each use, Knifesblade harder steel means you can hone less often, depending on your level of use, of course. The Combination Honing Steel has an angle guide built into the handle, so you can easily hone your knives at the correct 16° angle. The premium micarta handle provides a secure grip and matches the handles of the rest of the beautiful Knifesblade™ SERIES 1 line.

HOW TO CLEAN AND CARE FOR YOUR KNIFES
The Vikings would clean and maintain their knifes by hand every day. Their forging of blades was world renowned, and the durability was unmatched lasting generations. With the right care, Knifesblade knives can often last just as long using the right cleaning and drying methods.
Cleaning
your knife - We love the ease of putting items in
the dishwasher. We know that telling you to wash your knives by hand is an extra step, but trust us, it is worth it. Prevent aggressive cleaning agents like
powdered steel cleaners, this will cause premature wear and tear to your knife and handle, we recommend cleaning it by hand using lukewarm water, mild dish
soap and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge.
Knifesblade knives are made from our exclusive
formulation of steel and can withstand the occasional dishwasher, but only at the LOW temperature setting and on the top rack with non-heat drying.
If you go down the dishwasher route (we recommend that you didn’t… but some of our customers are on auto pilot cleaning mode) keep your knives separate from other items in the dishwasher to avoid them from bumping into each other during the
wash cycle.
Dishwasher
pods often contain aggressive chemicals which can damage the surface of the handle and steel. So here is our PSA… putting your knives in the dishwasher can
shorten their lifespan and reduce their edge retention making the edge dull and making the handle potentially fade. Plus, it will void the lifetime warranty.
OK, I washed
them by hand, now what?
After your hand washed knives are clean and dry, where you put them can also play a key role in making your knife last longer. It’s best for Knifesblade knives to have
their own space away from other tools and kitchen gadgets. A knife block is the preferable means of
storage to really look after your knife, but drawer organizers or protective sleeves can also work. If you put them in a drawer, be careful and reach
into a drawer with caution – Knifesblade knives are very sharp!
My handle
looks dull and tarnished - what should I do?
Cleaning, even by hand, does come with some unwelcome side effect: the surface of the
handle may become grey or faded. While this is not unhygienic or dangerous, it does look dull. You can simply restore some color by rubbing a drop of cooking
oil into the handle when required, bringing it back to life and giving it a new sheen. If you take the time to give your knife some proper care and attention,
then you’ll be able to enjoy it like a real Viking!
